Writing, publishing, and marketing The Sexual Misadventures of Alicia Williams, Alpha Female, has been a fun and eye-opening experience. It’s an exciting moment for a writer when you strike upon an idea that makes you want to race home from work and write for hours. That was what it was like to write this novel, and I hope to have that experience again with future writing projects.
There’s something special about a story that grows and evolves as you’re working on it. The characters become real to you. The situations, story arcs, intimate moments, and jokes take on a deeper meaning than just something you’re working on. My gut told me this book would work, that readers would connect with it and that even with all the sexual content and profanity, there was a deeper meaning within the story.
I’m proud to say that I feel I achieved that with The Sexual Misadventures of Alicia Williams, Alpha Female.
Is this book for everyone? Absolutely not. But to me, that’s what makes it a unique and special writing and reading experience. If you get it, if you relate to it, if you know people like Alicia Williams, and if you miss sex comedies that push the limits, then you’ll have a fun time reading this book.
And that’s all I can hope for.
Once your book is out there for public consumption, how people interpret it is out of your hands. How people consume it is out of your hands. If people consume it is out of your hands. But if you’re proud of what you’ve written, proud of the time, effort, energy, and creativity you’ve invested – as I am in this book – then you must also invest in something else: patience.
With any project, you have to understand that you often won’t be an overnight success. It rarely happens; even those touted as overnight successes worked years or decades to get where they are today.
All of us have to take that similar trek.
I’ve been frustrated before over why this book and my two others aren’t selling like I hoped they would. But I always have to put things in perspective. My books are three out of tens of millions of books, podcasts, movies, TV shows, documentaries, YouTube videos, and all the other content distracting the 8 billion people on the planet. That’s a tough amount of stuff to break through.
It’s important not to allow your frustration to prevent you from continuing to write and create. Eventually, thanks to the hard work and dedication you’ve put in, you will find a loyal fanbase that appreciates your work and gets the word out about you and your writing. I’m not saying it’ll be within the timeframe you hope it will be, but it will happen. You have to keep going.
At the time of writing this post, The Sexual Misadventures of Alicia Williams, Alpha Female, isn’t the success I wanted it to be, and that’s okay. Those who have read it have enjoyed it, and those who haven’t discovered it yet will one day find it via social media, Amazon, or a book review.
In the meantime, I have the final book to write in my Young Adult series, a new website to write posts for, and other books to plan and work on.
Thank you, reader, for going on this journey with me. Every writing project should be a learning experience, and I know I definitely learned a lot while writing The Sexual Misadventures of Alicia Williams, Alpha Female.
Until next time, stay positive, stay focused, and stay creative!
