A fast-paced and entertaining read, The Final Girl Support Group is an homage and a love letter to the slasher genre of the 80s and 90s. The story had plenty of fresh twists and turns reminiscent of the original Scream (1996).
While not a satire, author Grady Hendrix does deliver poignant commentary about the slasher genre. He focuses on how the genre treats female victims and how the male killers – who leave death and gore in their wake – are often celebrated and worshipped by society.
From the start, I was hooked and intrigued by what the author delivered throughout each chapter.
I highly recommend The Final Girl Support Group. This is the first novel I’ve read by Hendrix, and I’m excited to read his latest, How to Sell a Haunted House, next!
