I was hooked from the opening chapters and blew through this novel in less than two days.  The Tin Men is the third entry in the Scott Brodie/Maggie Taylor series from Nelson DeMille and his son, Alex DeMille, and it’s a fast-paced whodunit from start to finish.  Much like The Deserter and Blood LinesThe Tin Men delivers a solid story that continues to up the stakes and places our heroes in constant danger.

This time, Brodie and Taylor find themselves investigating a murder on an isolated Army base in the Mojave Desert.  As the two CID officers begin to dig deeper into the murder, the base’s culture, and the top-secret program being implemented, they quickly realize that what’s contained within the perimeter of the base must never escape.

Tin Men is loaded with relevant themes and advanced military tech that add a layer of science fiction to this entry in the Brodie/Taylor book series.  But as quickly as the world and technology evolve, how long until the concepts and weaponry in this fictional story become a reality?  After reading the book, I hope it’s long into the future.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Nelson DeMille’s work.  Having read both Paul Brenner novels (The General’s Daughterand Up Country) and the entire John Corey series, I was excited to see what he and his son would do in a collaboration.  I’ve yet to be disappointed.

Sadly, The Tin Men was the final book that Alex and his father were able to collaborate on before Nelson DeMille’s passing in 2024, but it’s safe to say that the legacy of his work is in good hands with his son at the helm.

The Tin Men is another great piece of fiction by Nelson and Alex DeMille, with a compelling story that makes it hard to put down.  I definitely recommend it.
