IAN:  Happy New Year, everyone! Author Ian Dawson here, and last month, we talked about making writing goals for yourself in the new year.  Today, I’d like to explore this idea a little more with you as you continue to plan your creative goals.

While finishing a project can be the main goal, it’s important to give yourself milestones along the way that give you a sense that you’re accomplishing those goals.  Give yourself a weekly word or page count to keep yourself motivated and moving forward.

Speaking of motivation, rewarding yourself with something fun once you hit a milestone or goal can be helpful.  It doesn’t have to be anything expensive or big, but something you can only have once you’ve achieved a certain aspect of the project.

These small motivators can keep you going even when things get difficult during the process.

Remember that all writers have off days, so don’t get down on yourself if you hit a milestone later than you planned.  Keep working and moving forward.  Your hard work will be worth it in the end.

Happy Writing, and I’ll talk to you next time!
